Getmanski National Park is created on the basis of three hydrological nature reserves of a nation importance (Bakyrivskyy, Klymentivskyy, Hukhryansky) which are located in the floodplain of the river Vorskla. It is one of the purest and most beautiful rivers in Ukraine. Generally, there are 12 reserved areas in the valley.

The creation of the park lasted nearly 10 years. Natural complexes of the park were quite significantly presented in natural and reserved fund of Ukraine earlier. The park consists of such hydrological reserves of national importance as "Huhryanskyy" (year of the announcement is 1980), "Bakyrivskyy" (year of the announcement is 1977), "Klymentivskyy" ( year of the announcement is 1998) with a total area of about 9.5 hectares and the reserve of local importance "Yamnyy." There are 12 reserved areas in the valley of the river Vorskla. The largest is "The Lithuanian forest", is directly adjacent to its bed. This is a unique relic pine forest, where you can meet trees, aged more than 300 years old.
Natural features: The territory of Getmanski National Natural Park first of all is a charming and silent river Vorskla and its flood plain, untouched bogs and meadows, the pine and oak forests. The Vorskla is one of the largest left tributaries of the river Dnieper (now flows into the Dneprodzerzhinsk reservoir) originates near the village Pokrovka of Ivnyansk region of Belgorod Oblast of the Russian Federation. The total length of the river is 464 km. The general direction of the valley of the Vorskla is from the northeast to the southwest, but on its way it considerably deviates the specified direction. The bed of The Vorskla is very twisting in the upper and middle current, its width is 12-50 m, it becomes straight in the lower current, and its width reaches to 100-150 m. The average depth is 2-4 m (maximum is 10-12 m), however you can often meet shallow areas in the upper and middle currents. The bottom is sandy, in floods is muddy. Because of a low level drop, flow velocity does not exceed 0.1 m / s, only on the shallows it increases to 1.5 m / s. The right side of the river is a high wavy plateau, which is separated by deep gullies, ravines and river valleys. Gradually, the territory raises with distance from the river from south to north, reaching the maximum point of 215 m above sea level. On the left side of the river Vorskla, the area is pretty quiet and has flat nature. More than 50 % of the area of national park occupies the lands covered with forest vegetation, more than 20% - meadows, 22% - swamps, less than 5% - reservoirs. The climate of the region is moderate and continental.
In spite of high degree of anthropogenous impact, there was saved the diversity of picturesque landscapes of the Left-bank forest steppe in the basin of Vorskla - from lowland floodplains, peat moss bogs to the relict indigenous forests which are characterized by a rich resource potential, flora and fauna genofond, historical and cultural memorials which are needed the urgent protection and ecologically grounded sustainable use.
